Dealing With Failure
Happy Monday!
The one constant you will see during every baseball game:
Failure
We participate in a sport where failure comes more than success. You've heard it said that "Hall of Fame players only succeed 30% of the time - they fail 70% of the time."
Baseball is not easy.
Failure is GOING TO HAPPEN
How will you respond?
The best response is to say SO WHAT, and be prepared for the next pitch.
This game (like life) will compound (negatively) on you very fast if you are worried about the Last Inning, Last Pitch, or Last Game.
Strikeout? SO WHAT, NEXT PITCH
Error? SO WHAT, NEXT PITCH
Walk? SO WHAT, NEXT PITCH
Acknowledge that you failed, then you must quickly move on and be prepared for the next pitch.
You Got This! Believe It
Conclusion
Parents: Encourage your player to have a short memory on the field. If they make a mistake, encourage them to give it their best in the next play. After the game, it's time to reflect, teach, and learn from those mistakes.
Players: Keep your head up! There is always more baseball to be played. You must stay ready for the next opportunity!

ps. I made a video explaining the importance of this type of attitude. You can find it here.
